Hydrotreated vegetable oil is a synthetic fossil-free fuel that is also called green or renewable diesel, made from waste fats and cooking oils. HVO is practical in that almost any van, truck, tractor, or car with a diesel engine can run on it or it can be mixed with normal DERV.

Due to the fact that it is made from waste, the fleets that use it are actually enacting a net green house gas emissions reduction of between 80 and 90%.

There are some drawbacks to HVO; it is more expensive than mineral diesel at present and not common at forecourts in the UK; that said, there are far less DPF problems, and the fuel is perfect for use with dust carts and other short journey applications.

The perfect ‘city diesel’ which offers smooth power and greatly reduces PM and air pollution and also means the vehicle needs less AdBlue. HVO is an ideal fuel for minibuses, bin lorries, excavators, chippers, trucks, and other municipal vehicles.
